Paula Sampaio Head of the Advanced Light Microscopy Scientific Platform, i3S Porto (Portugal), Founder and National Coordinator of PPBI (Portuguese Platform of Bioimaging)

Prof. Paula Sampaio holds a degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Porto. She is a former visiting scientist in the group of Cayetano Gonzalez at EMBL and a former postdoctoral fellow in the IBMC Molecular Genetics group of Prof. Claudio Sunkel, where she studied the mechanisms of cell division. Prof. Sampaio is the Head of the Advanced Light Microscopy Scientific Platform at the i3s in Porto (Portugal), a well-renowned Imaging Facility that was founded two decades ago and which she has continued to develop. She was also the founder and national coordinator of PPBI – the Portuguese Platform of BioImaging, currently a node of the Euro-Bioimaging ERIC. Moreover, Paula lectures on Bioimaging in Masters and Doctoral Courses at University of Porto and has organized several international open courses and events on microscopy and image analysis, including the course series on Optical Microscopy Imaging for Biosciences and NEUBIAS training courses.

Francesco Bacchi Business Development Specialist – EMEA (CrestOptics S.p.A, Italy)

Francesco Bacchi received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Biotechnology at the University of Turin in 2014. He dedicated himself for 5+ years to research activities on rare cell isolation and analysis in patient biopsies and on the biophysical characterization of 3D cell models like spheroids and organoids. In his role as EMEA Business Development Specialist for CrestOptics, Francesco brings his knowledge and previous experience in fluorescence confocal imaging, super-resolution microscopy, and 3D high-content analysis to expand CrestOptics technology applications in Life Sciences.

Structured Illumination Microscopy (SIM) is a powerful super-resolution technique that has become an increasingly robust method in Life Sciences for studying fine subcellular structures with great detail. By overcoming the limitations of light diffraction, SIM allows researchers to make discoveries across a wide range of specimen types.

CrestOptics is dedicated to making SIM technology more accessible to scientists to advance their research. That is why we have developed DeepSIM, the first Lattice SIM super-resolution module that can be easily integrated with any existing upright or inverted microscope with a camera port.

DeepSIM takes traditional microscopy to the next level by providing super-resolved imaging capabilities similar to confocal microscopes, with the same Z-depth penetration, while maintaining the simplicity of a widefield system. This allows researchers to obtain detailed images from deep, thick specimens, even in challenging conditions.

In our upcoming webinar, we will guide you through an across-scale imaging journey and demonstrate how DeepSIM can transform imaging techniques. The webinar will illustrate the consistent application of this technology with real-world examples across various specimen scales prepared using traditional microscopy methods.

Examples of applications will include:

1️ C. Elegans – Prof. Klosin (Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology PAS, Poland)

2️ Human Kidney Tissue – Dr. Endlich (Nipoka GmbH, Germany)

3️ Mouse Retina Section – Dr. Lagerholm, Dr. Yegutkin, Dr. Svärd (University of Turku and InFLAMES Research Flagship, Finland), and Dr. Imreh (Karolinska Institutet, Sweden)

4️ Cancer Organoids co-cultured with Dissociated Neurons – Prof. Hwang, Dr. Wang (Harvard University, MA, USA)

5️ Mouse Brain Slice – Dr. Brunne and Dr. Failla (Universitätsklinikum Hamburg Eppendorf UKE, Germany)

6️ Live HeLa cells – Dr. Fujioka (Hokkaido University, Japan)

7️ Neuron cells – Dr. Zhou (The Pennsylvania State University, USA)

8️ Zebrafish – Dr. Paradisi, Dr. Tartaglia, Dr. Lauri (Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù, Italy)

Register now to reserve your spot in this exciting webinar and begin your exploration into the realm of super-resolution imaging. Do not let this chance slip away!
